IMI accelerant
IMI Systems manufactures a diverse range of explosives. The production process results in surplus explosives, in which the material is not uniform (i.e. it is a mix of several batches) and is therefore prohibited for military use.
In the past, these explosives were destroyed through controlled explosions, but later, pursuant to the Clean Air Law, this method was banned.
Because of the explosives' high quality, but short shelf life following production, it was decided to use them for civilian explosives work. They are higher quality and more expensive than the explosives usually used for quarrying (such as emulsions), but because they are surplus, they are sold at the price of emulsions. Quarries can therefore obtain high quality explosives at the price of emulsions.
On the one hand, the quarry uses less explosives, resulting in less air pollution, and on the other hand, IMI Systems does not have to destroy the explosives and contaminate the environment.
Use options
IMI accelerants can be used to accelerate the ANFOex as the main material for tunneling work in a damp environment or short boreholes.
Advantages
- Strongly water resistant
- Especially high explosive speed with better ANFOex initiation performance and better rock crushing power
- Better performance than ANFOex, reducing the quantity of the ANFOex
- Reduces the number of boreholes, thereby saving drilling, detonators, and charging work
- Safe – is not affected by friction or blows
- Easy and convenient to use and transport, because it is a solid and can be molded into any shape desired
Initiation
IMI accelerant is detonated with a detonator or detonation cord.
Safety and transportation
IMI accelerant can be transported and used pursuant to Explosives (Trade, Transportation, Manufacture, Storage, and Use) Regulations, 5754-1994
